The Kissing Booth 3
Directed by Vince Marcello
★★½
So, apparently I never saw The Kissing Booth 2 (which is a shame because Marco was in that one too), but luckily for me Netflix put out a quick recap on YouTube.
Anyways, The Kissing Booth 3 picks up right where the second one ended, with the group of friends going on a road trip together in a laughter filled montage. Speaking of montages, this movies four of them, that’s right FOUR, in the first twenty minutes and unfortunately that’s not an exaggeration.
Aside from a ridiculous number of montages, this film follows the formula that other Netflix movies of its ilk do as well (think To All The Boys I Loved Before and the After series), and it does an okay job at it. I think this movie is far better than the first one, but maybe that’s because I knew more of what to expect and there wasn’t as much hype around this one (since I caught a screener) and how good it is.
From a performance standpoint, everyone is doing a decent job, Molly Ringwald has a pretty good scene at the end, but this movie isn’t going to win any acting awards, but it also isn’t trying to.
There is a lot of terrible dialogue and the two leads constantly make infuriating decisions that just leave me somewhat resenting them and wishing the film would focus on its more interesting tertiary characters.
Ultimately this movie succeeds on what it sets out to be, which feels like a slightly more adult Disney Channel original movie. If you’re a fan of the others, you’ll enjoy this movie. If not, you’re probably not even reading this review.
